and the goose is gettin fat. Please to put a penny in the old man’s hat. If you haven’t got a penny, then a ha’penny will do. If you haven’t got a ha’penny, then God bless you.
Remember this old Christmas song? Cheerful, isn’t it? The melody, at least, is cheerful.
I am still computer-deprived with a dead or dying laptop on my desk. In a few days, when my boy gets home for Christmas after working hard at university and also having some adventures in the “growing up” category, we are going to work out all our needs, computer-wise. I’m thinking that I’ll buy his old laptop, as I did the last time. Oh, yes, Toshiba served me well for some years!
In Saskatoon, one complaint against the Merry Christmas sign on the front of our city buses caused quite the uproar. I’m glad that the city decided that there is no harm in displaying this simple good wish for the season. It doesn’t criticize other religions or anything of the kind. If one religion has to apologize for existing, then so do all the others. Pretty much any decent religion has the principle of love and acceptance for all of our fellow humans.
A big happening in Canada lately is the “Idle no More” movement, with the aboriginal people of Canada uniting to call our federal government to account regarding not just its ignoring of them, but also the methods that they use to run roughshod over any opposition to their extreme policies. The government’s recent commitment, through undemocratic legislation, to disregard the environment and the aboriginal peoples’ views, in favour of selling our oil and gas reserves at an accelerated pace, does not sit well with those of us who love and cherish our country’s natural beauty.
To jump to the topic of gun control, this is one of the very few governments in the world that is loosening gun control, having destroyed detailed information about gun ownership in Canada, to please our version of the belligerent, far-right, gun-owning group, people who think that common-sense gun regulation is a personal attack on themselves. I’m sure most responsible gun-owners would support good regulation for the safety of us all, so this fringe group gaining power in Canada is not representative of the majority. They obviously have the ear of the prime minister.
Hey, I wasn’t going to talk politics. It just came out that way. You’ll be pleased to know that I am trying a new recipe today, and if I like it, it will be posted here for your Christmas enjoyment. So off I go to my holiday cooking. We shall fight the good fight after some celebrations with those we love the most.

I’m really pleased to see the First Nations people organizing and speaking out as they are with the Idle No More movement. They will be a powerful force in this country, and it’s well past time they were heard and heeded.
Me too; it seems like exactly the right time to make their voices heard. The bravery of Chief Spence and her hunger strike, the skilled diplomacy of Shawn Atleo–admirable leaders are emerging.
